Iris Van Herpen - Capriole Haute Couture

Iris Van Herpen - Capriole Haute Couture

Van Herpen's work is fascinating. I like the way she talks about her work and her inspirations; mainly her emphasis on organisms and organic shapes. The first time I saw her work on Björk, it seems both concepts, Björk's most recent album and Iris' vision, mix up rather well. Here's the complete collection.

Thom Browne S/S 2013

Thom Browne S/S 2013

Theatrical runways are usually the ones that get most of my attention, but this time, it wasn't just exclusively about the performance but for the clothes as well. The 60's psychedelic vibe and the ballerinas added a quite surreal touch to the concept.
Thom Browne's vision is just fascinating and daring, his use of color and patterns is so entertaining to analyze; but really enjoyable at the same time.

Christopher Kane S/S 2013

Christopher Kane S/S 2013

Loved the prints on this collection. The details of the brush strokes look amazing on the clothes (one of my favorite pieces was the white stroke one as you can see). The contrast of the red detail on the boots gives a nice touch to the outfits.

Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012

Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012

One of the my favorite collections of this season, for 3 simple reasons: impeccable tailoring, perfect trench coats and the details (just take a look at the animal headed crook handles).

Samurai Kissing

Mugler Resort 2013
 'Samurai Kissing'

First time I saw this print was at Mugler's Resort 2013 (for women), then on Nicola after the S/S 2013 Womenswear show. The Resort collection is really outstanding, I loved the colour scheme and the way the geometric shapes enhance the models silhouettes. My references for this illustration were the Samurai Kissing print and a little bit of Japanese folk (hence the mask and the ghostly fireballs).

Vivienne Westwood S/S 2013

Vivienne Westwood S/S 2013

I love Westwood's collections because her style and her vision is clearly imprinted in every garment. Some of the menswear collection highlights were the over-sized shirts, the amazing tailoring, and the floral headpieces. the concept of the whole british pic-nic is amusing. On the other hand there's the Red Label outfit; florals were also present on the Spring collection, as well as floral headpieces, and a very strong british nationality vibe. One of the things I like the most about Westwood is that sense of creative freedom and the way she conceptualizes each collection.

Alexander McQueen F/W 2009

Alexander McQueen F/W 2009

There's something I love about this particular outfit; I'm not sure it's wether the pose it demands from the model (like that sort of embrace) or if it's the concept as a whole.. Whenever I think a bout McQueen, I think about the black and the white feather outfits from this collection.

Givenchy F/W 2012

Givenchy F/W 2012

I love the way Tisci constructed this collection based on very personal concepts. The minotaur references added a sturdy, rude, yet elegant touch to the outfits. The colour scheme of the garments was incredible, I loved the fact that the collection is quite wearable.

Katie Eary S/S 2010

Katie Eary S/S 2010

This is my all-time favorite Katie Eary collection. I really liked the concept of exposing human anatomy  in a fashionable way. I'm forever in love with the brilliantly crafted masks, every detail was amazing.

Walter van Beirendonck

Walter van Beirendonck F/W 2012

Amazingly creepy leather masks at Walter van Beirendonck's F/W collection.
(on my list of what I'd like to wear)

I'd like to wear... #2

I'd like to wear...

This time I took some of my favorite F/W 2012 garments:

  1. John Barlett navy overall
  2. Alexander Wang jacket
  3. J. W. Anderson sweater
  4. Jil Sander whale sweater
  5. Neil Barret coat and metallic sweater
  6. Michael Bastian trousers (with embroidered dogs I believe)
  7. Jonathan Saunders shirt
  8. Costume National flannel / leather shirt
  9. J.W. Anderson quilted hat and accesories
  10. Alexander McQueen black vacuum calf brogue shoes (amazing details) and black buckled monk shoes.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

The whole collection blew my mind. First, the golden embroidery with baroque-like decor was incredible, I really like how they adapted this feature into the blazers and the socks (I really encourage  you to watch the details of the actual collection). The tailoring looks quite elegant, and the coats... I can't stop staring at the coats. The inspiration for the collection is obviously Italian Baroque; if you take a look at the furniture and decors of this particular era you can realize the amazing resemblance, it's like if the clothes actually belonged to that moment in time, without losing the modern touch.

Vivienne Westwood S/S 2013

Vivienne Westwood S/S 2013

One of my favorite spring collections of womenswear. When I look at any Vivienne Westwood collection, I can't help getting this strong sense of utter freedom; her work is fresh and quite lively. One of the highlights of S/S 2013, was the vermilion (I believe it's velvet) hood, + the incredible heart-shaped make up.

Louis Vuitton F/W 2012

Louis Vuitton F/W 2012

This is one of my favorite pieces of the F/W collections, it looks so comfortable and amazing. The volume of the sweater is just perfect for the coming winter. I got to admit I'm obsessed with the silver arrow accessory, (I first saw it on a LV ad on a magazine.. I was stoked). The complete collection  was very neat, the bags ruled also. (I might do another piece featuring the bags :)

Alexander McQueen S/S 2013

Alexander McQueen S/S 2013

There are a few things that are certain to me about every new McQueen collection: the silhouettes, amazing heels, and uncertainty mostly (in a positive way). Next Spring's McQueenBee

Marcelo Burlon

Marcelo Burlon

'County of Milan' is Burlon's brand new collection of t-shirts, mainly featuring patagonian-inspired prints such as seamless snakes, blue guacamayos and geometric patterns. The quality of the graphics is really good, from what I could see in the complete collection. He recently launched the women's line of graphic tees. (Apart from having his own line of t-shirts, Marcelo works as a DJ, editor, stylist and many other things).

McQ F/W 2012

McQ F/W 2012

The British/military inspired collection was outstanding, McQueen's essence was clearly visible.
There is some kind of retro vibe on the silhouettes, specially on the olive-green ones.
What I like about Alexander McQueen's team is the artistic plus on their runways; there's always something unexpected that makes every collection memorable. This time we could see Kristen McMemany making her way into a dark forest, where a mysterious cabin awaits.

MSGM F/W 2012

MSGM F/W 2012

MSGM's collection is all about youth and movement.
Every single piece of the collection looks neatly done (be sure to check the complete collection), the gloves, the coats, the prints, even the tailoring. I really like the concept and versatility of this young brand. High expectations for the next collection.

Carven S/S 2013

Carven S/S 2013

What I like about this collection is that it looks impeccable, the herb patterns look great on Carven's tailoring. I loved the sweater design, the shorts and, of course, the emerald-green leather jacket.

Mugler S/S 2012

Mugler S/S 2012

This is kind of the starting point of my interest in fashion illustration. I know I'm not a pro in the painting department, nor in the fashion illustration, but I strive to become better and learn during the process. Feel free to comment.
